New Auto Tax Scam

    Thanks to the Georgia Auto Dealers Assn. The real reason behind this is to get rid of the :Curb Stoner" a person that sells a car to a private party. If you give your car to your child your child will pay a 6 1/2 % tax on fair market value. The cars Fair Market Value is $10,000 but the motor is shot and needs about $3,000 worth of work. You will be charged as if the car was in excellent condition. A $650.00 TAX. Auto dealers have tried over the years to get rid of the private sale. A person can get a lot more money by selling their car or gifting it to a family member. This takes out the car dealer. A car dealer or my next door neighbor??? Dah

    It's 6.5% now, but it goes up every yr or so until it gets to 10%!

    RL22, it does not go up to 10%, it maxes at 7% in 2015. I have a love/hate with this change. I hate that we now have to pay tax on "casual" sales. However, I do love the no annual birthday tax.

    I stand corrected. I read an article last week and it said the tax increased to 10%. Goes to show that you just can't believe everything you read on the internet. Bon Jair!
